I am searching for anyone who may have information on the 1883 marriage of Edward Gately and Annie E. Brennan in an effort to find anyone who may also have information on the Irish origins of Annie E. Brennan’s father Patrick J. Brennan.

Annie E. Brennan (also known as Anna E. Brennan) was born 10/05/1854 in West Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and died after 1930. Annie E. Brennan’s father Patrick J. Brennan was born around 1825 –1827 in Ireland. Naturalization records say he was born in Tipperary and came to the USA (Boston, Massachusetts) around April 7, 1848. He married Ellen Tracy (born about 1831 in Ireland) on July 12, 1851 in South Boston, Massachusetts, and they lived in West Newton, Massachusetts. Patrick died in 2/10/1893; Ellen died August 4, 1866. Patrick’s father was Jeremiah (also known as Derby) Brennan, born before 1803 in Ireland; he married Catherine Whalen, born in Ireland.

Annie E. Brennan married Edward Gately on 4/25/1883 in West Newton, Massachusetts. Edward Gately was born in December 1853 in Dorchester, Massachusetts and died 2/2/1904 in Newton, Massachusetts. Edward’s father was John Gately who was born in Ireland. His mother was Mary (unknown maiden name – possibly Gerry), born in Ireland. In 1883 Edward was a book publisher, possibly in Boston. Annie E. Brennan had a sister Catherine Brennan who married Edward Gately. I don’t know if the two Gately husbands were related, but they could be. Annie and Catherine also had other siblings, among whom was John F. Brennan who was a partner with Gately in a clothing store in New Haven, Connecticut circa 1904.

In 1904 Edward Gately was involved with several businesses including a line of clothing stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania among other places. Edward had a sister Mary A. Gately, born around 1850, who was married into the Larrabee family in Athol, Massachusetts as of 1904. Edward had a second sister Ellen Gately, born around 1853, who was married into the Harwood family in Athol, Massachusetts as of 1904.

Edward Gately and Annie E. Brennan had children:

Edward J. Gately, born 11/29/1884 in Pennsylvania;

Helen F. Gately, born 11/17/1887 in Pennsylvania;

John Francis Gately, born 9/17/1891 in Massachusetts, died October 1974 possibly in Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. John Francis Gately married a Julia A.(unknown maiden name); they had a son Edward J. Gately born about October 1918 in Massachusetts.

Joseph Gately, born 9/17/1891 in Massachusetts, died after 1930.

James E. Gately, born 12/29/1892 in Massachusetts, died after 1930; married Alice F. (unknown maiden name) about 1917 possibly in Ohio; They had a son James E. Gately born about 1918 in Ohio, and a daughter Jane A. Gately born about 1921 in Massachusetts.
