I am very interested in your Martin Gately.

Our lines reach Jefferson County, Missouri by the 1850 Federal census, anchored by a brother & sister, Luke Geatley and Mary Geatley Moran, Irish immigrants.

Luke & his wife arrived in New Orleans, Thomas Moran & Mary Geatley Moran arrived in Rhode Island; both before the famine.

Jonathon Geatley & his cousins Thomas & Luke Moran fought together in the 10th Missouri Infantry in the Civil War.

Luke's son Jonathon lists his father's birthplace as Athlone, Roscommon. Luke's wife Margaret Quigley Geatley was born in Westmeath.

One of Jonathon's sons is Martin R., born in 1885.

This winter, my uncle paid a researcher in Ireland. She agreed that the family is from Roscommon due to the names, but unfortunately did not find church records for them. She said that the years we need have scanty records.

What can you tell me about your Gately family?

Thank you!
