There is a lot of information on the Gathright line, but I only have the documentation to go back to Miles Gathright (1750-1815), and he was the husband of Mary Collins. All the other researchers from this line only have the proof back to this ancestor. The Gathright informtion comes from a book that is not documented. I have noticed a lot of undocumented information on the web.In genealogy, you always have to cite your sources.
Carolyn Gathright found that Miles Garthwaite never went to Jamestown, VA.She is working with Garthwaites from the 1500's and 1600's.I wish someone would start with Miles Gathright (b. 1750) to prove his ancestors.
I do have a Jamestown ancestor, Stephen Hopkins, but he was from my grandmother's line.Stephen Hopkins left Jamestown, and he went back to Hursley, Hampshire, England. Stephen Hopkins was then on the Mayflower, and he was a signer of the Mayflower Compact.I am from his son Giles Hopkins, and he was a child on the Mayflower.
You do have three documented Revolutionary War ancestors. Ensign Walter Poole and Second Lieutenant Miles Gathright served from Virginia.Major Croom did civil service in North Carolina. His first name was Major.Major Croom was the grandfather of Mary Collins.
