Hi Mary,

It's great hearing from you! I am here in San Diego, CA. My email is connectom@yahoo.com

I have been spelling the name as Gattis, but have seen William's sir name spelled Gatteys/Gaddis. I am not so concerned about that, other than it makes things very challenging when researching the various spellings.

Here is a bit of information I have on William Gattis. I don't have any information on Charity. One querry (perhaps yours?) indicate her sir name may have been William. Sandy Avery and Teresa Keel are my cousins who added much of this information and some of it appears to be chats in ancestry.com.

I don't have much information on Nancy Gattils other than she was born about 1826 in TN, died 24 Mar (no year given), and she married Thomas Christopher Cook.

Looking for info on Nancy Jane Gattis who married James Allen Cook March 12, 1844, Tishomingo Co., MS. She apparently died between 1860 & 1870. She was in 1860 MS census & by 1870 James Allen & their 4 children were in Grayson Co., TX.

I wonder if your Nancy Jane Gattis might be a sister to my Absolom Gatteys. He married in Tishomingo Co MS 12 Jan 1843 to Barbary Stephens.

He was born in 1822 - some records show in TN, others show in AL. If I looked at the correct Jane Cook, it looks like she was b ca 1826 in TN or AL

My Absolom died in 1880 in Prentiss Co MS, but at least one of his daughters was in Montague Co TX in 1880 (2 counties west of Grayson) and after 1880, most of his other children and his widow were in Hunt County TX, also not far from Grayson County.

There were 4 marriages of Gattis/Gatteys/Gattys in Tishomingo that were near the same time, The one I show above and the ones following:

John to Mary Piles 12 Aug 1840
William to Delilah Hutchins 05 Sep 1842
and your ancestor to James A. Cook 12 Mar 1844

Both John and William Gattis are living in 1850 in Tishomingo County next to another William Gattis and his wife Charity. William was b ca 1784 Ireland and Charity b ca 1785 SC

I really think all 4 of these individuals are children of the above William and Charity, but I have not proven anything yet.

Joel, could very well be. I haven't done any research on the Gattises yet but something interesting you have about Absolom's daughter is that she was in Montague Co. in 1880. James Allen Cook and 3 of his children were residing in Montague also in 1880. One unmarried daughter lived with him, two were married with families & we don't know what happened to his fourth child, James Leroy. We think maybe he died young. James Allen died & is buried Montague Co. What was Absolom's daughter's name

Her name was Ellender Barbara Gatteys. She married John Andrew Price 10 Apr 1873 in Prentiss Co MS and were in Precinct 2 of Montague County TX in 1880 - Family Number 182. (listed as J A Price)

Your J A Cook appears to be in Precinct 1 - (If he is the one with daughter Mollie in his household)
