One of my grandfather's younger sisters, Georgia Martin, born in Macon, MO married a Richard A. Gaunt in Montana in 1908. I think he was related to a Sallie (or Sally) A Gaunt. Sallie was the last wife of my great-grandfather, William B. Martin. Richard was 49, Georgia 33 at the time of their marriage. They at sometime moved to Salt Lake City area where they had 2 daughters, Edna M. and Mary. Edna was the older born in about 1912, Mary about 3 years later. I have a picture of Georgia. My mother wrote a message on the backside of the picture stating that “Lin’s fathers half sister by his fathers (Wm) last wife She died in Salt Lake City last year – left a daughter”. Georgia died in 1939 at the age of 64. Lin is my father, deceased in 1972. William B. Martin had 3 wives over a period of time starting about 1850. His 2nd son, Josephus, of his first marriage (I think there was no divorces, but deaths of the first 2 wives.) is my grandfather, deceased in 1933 in Missouri. I’m suspecting that Sallie (or Sally) was a Gaunt either by a previous marriage (if any), or was born as a Gaunt. Richard came from Missouri and I’m suspecting that Georgia either knew of Richard when he was in Missouri or her mother Sallie got her acquainted with Richard and later, possibly through letters correspondence, went and married Richard in Montana. I don’t know why they moved to Salt Lake City unless there was some LDS connection, or possibly a conversion to the LDS faith. In the 1920 census Richard is shown as a fruit and garden farmer. In the 1940 census, 6 years before his death he is shown single, as a baliff of the district court in Salt Lake City. His father is shown as coming from Kentucky (same as William Martin) and mother from Virginia. I hope this helps you. Feel free to correspond with me if you wish. –Gary Martin
