Sorry, Pat. I think I made an error in my previous message, because there were three individuals with the given name "Etienne," not only two. Goes like this:
Pierre GOVEREAU - 1620s France
Pierre GOVEREAU - 1650s France
Etienne Adrian GOVREAU - Canada, PQ
Joseph GOVREAU - 1830s US, Vermont
Notice that the spelling changed with the "second Etienne." After Joseph, in Vermont, it changed again, to GOVRO and GOVERO. Those who entered the US from Ontario (rather than Quebec Province) tended to use the original French spelling GAUVEREAU.
