Hi Beth, wish I had seen this message this morning (5/10/10. I had to go to the Department of Health to obtain the death record for Marietta Gavin so that the Catholic Diocese of Providence could give me the section #. There is a family plot there and I went to the Diocese to see if my mother qualified as grand daughter. As it turned out someone else has been given prior permission to the site. I won't go into that any further since you aren't related and aredoing this for transcription reasons. (what is a transcription anyway?).
My Mother is Margaret Mary Gavin - poet, artist and counselor. She was born March 23, 1925, the daughter of Katherine Louise Gorman. She is the grand daughter of Edward and Margaret Mary (McAndrew) Gavin. Marietta was my mother's aunt. Marietta was the sibling of John Francis, my mothers's father and my grand father. He was the author of a folk ballad, called "Down in Davis Park" that was popular with GI's in both world wars. John and Marietta had two brothers - Joseph T. and Edward V. I am not certain who the others in that section were. I seem to remember my mother saying that they may have been children of Edward and Margaret that died at an early age. That's all I have for now. I wasn't expecting to see your blog. I was searching for obituaries for the people the Diocese said had prior permission to the plot. If you have questions and I can help then please re-post and I will do my best.
thanks
Jack Mertz
