At Greenwood cem. in Brooklyn there is a family plot with the Shepherd family all buried there. The first person buried there is Mary S. Gasley buried 6-18-1864 and her name is the top of headstone. also on the headstone is my 3rd great grandmother Sarah D Shepherd died 1876. We have no idea who Mary is.
Sarah bought or was given lot in June 15,1864 by John R Hopkins. We believe Sarah was nurse. Sarah emigrated from England probably as a widow sometime between 1840-1860. She had 4 children, William, Anna(married a Benjamin Harned, Elizabeth(married William P Smith or a Monnell or both),and Sarah R (married William Bowker).
I don't know if Mary was someone she worked for, another married daughter?, a sister? I just can't imagine two stangers sharing a headstone.
Any thoughts for this mystery?
