Gottlieb Gebhard (Gebhardt) 1754 of Franconia

My earliest Gebhardt/Gebhard/Gebhart ancestor Gottlieb, who was called Godfrid when he came to America in 1754, listed himself as being from "Franconia, Germany." I must admit, I cannot figure out where this actually is (or was)! I have to wonder if it is connected to the part of the Alsace-Lorraine Region that shifted from being French, to German, to Prussian, to French, etc.

Because of this thought, I had to ask... if you know any of your Johann's children's names, please contact me if you find a Gottlieb/Godfrid. I can provide to you scores of descendents from this Gebhardt.
