Hello there:
I believe we could be related.
My maternal grandfather was Joseph Edmond Gelinas of Trois Rivieres, Quebec which is directly accross the St. Lawrence River from Nicolet. I remember him going to Lowell, Mass. to visit family. He died in 1970, i believe.
We are directly descended from the Jellineau dit Gelinas who had the seigneury in Yamachiche, Quebec in the 1600's.
There's a fellow by the name of Marcel Gelinas in Mass. who has written a book about the family. You might try to find him.
He confirmed an interesting fact. We are of basically Celtic stock (Breton in France) but the hitch is that one of our ancestors waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy back when was a Jewish money lender in Bretagne. Interesting stuff, no? LOL
