Hello Sandy,

Excuse the delay in responding. Yes, I do have info on Jean-Baptiste Bellemare. He was the brother of my relative Etienne Gelinas. The 3rd brother was Pierre Lacourse. Their parents were Jean Gelinas & Francoise Dumesnil. Parents of Jean were Estienne Gellineau & Huguette Robert. It was Estienne and his son Jean who left La Rochelle, France in May of 1658 on the ship Le Taureau for Quebec, Canada.

I looked up all the Belmars you listed but couldn't find any connection to Jean-Baptiste Bellemare. Name changes happened frequently over time and don't doubt that Bellemare changed to Belmar. In France the Gellineau name changed from Jullineau and Juiellineau. In Spain the name was Gelida. If you have any more questions, I will gladly help you. I have much info on the Bellemare and Gelinas families.

Bob Gelinas
