The 1900 census index lists a "Neree Gelinas" living in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The first name was not written very legibly, and the quality of reproduction was not very good, but it could be Neree" or "Merce" (hard to tell). If so, the family on the census page (214B) is living at 193 West Mason Street on June 13 is:
Gelinas Neree, head, b. Apr 1860, 40, m. 18 yrs, b. Canada, parents too, immigrated 1869, in US 31 yrs, Naturalization: "Pa" (whatever that means), works at shoe factory
Delinia, wife, b. Nov 1861, 38, m. 18 yrs, 6 children, 4 still living, b. Canada, parents too, immigrated 1864, in US 34 yrs
Milda, daughter, b. Apr 1887, 13, b. Massachusetts
Louis, son, b. Aug 1888, 11, b. Massachusetts
Francis, son, b. Aug 1890, 9, b. Massachusetts
Leona, daughter, b. Nov 1893, 6, b. Massachusetts
I am looking for the Canadian ancestors of this individual. I have found, from other sources, a Louis R. Gelinas born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on August 25, 1888. This is probably the son of Neree in the census that was born in August of 1888. I also have some descendants of this Louis, for those interested.
