Tammy,
Good to hear from you.I couldn't find a marriage for Caroline Gemmecke to Allison Harris in Vigo County, IN.However, see my posting on John Conrad's obit.Carrie is Caroline.she was born 2/14/1885.Indeed, Mildred H. Harris was born to Allison Harris & Carrie Gemmecke in Vigo Co, IN 1/4/1910.
The Obit says John Conrad died in 1913 and at the time Carrie Harris was in San Francisco. Now, when I originally spoke with my mother-in-law, Elsie Gemmecke, she said Carrie married a Johnston.I had discounted this as misinformation, but upon closer examination, I see a Carrie Harris married Edward S. Johnston on 12/7/1919 in Vigo County.Looking at births, there's a Dorthy R. Johnston born to Edwin S. Johnston and C. Gimmecke on 9/8/1920.
So, Caroline's parents are John Conrad Gemmecke and Elise "Lizzie" Schumacker (not sure about the spelling). They came to America in May, 1882.I've just started sending away for passenger lists.I know they probably arrived at the Baltimore Port.
John Conrad was a cobbler (shoemaker - how ironic). One of his sons, Conrad Richard, was also a cobbler in Terre Haute.I have a picture of John Conrad and of Elise.I'll E-Mail them to you later.
So, what happened to Carrie?
