Windows XP loads from E: with Vista Home Basic on C:. I have not tried Generations 8 with Vista. Initially I was using Generations Grand Suite 8.0 and have now upgraded to 8.51 using the patch ggs851patch.exe. The disappearing data occurs on both versions.
