Jeanne,
Concerning your three paragraphs:
William Geoghegan (1781-1853), son of John Geoghegan (1756 -) and Diannah (-1815), married Sophia Barnes (1786-1813), in 1802.They had children:
1. John Geoghegan (-)
2. Mary Jane Geoghegan (-)
3. James Geoghegan (-)
4. William Barnes Geoghegan (1811-1837)
5. Stewart Geoghegan (1813-)
I would look first in this family for a son of one of William's four sons to be named William, be born c.1840, and marry back into the Barnes family.William Barnes Geoghegan died 1837 and I know Stewart Geoghegan had a son named William Geoghegan who was born in 1838, but he was a well known steamboat captain who married Celona Chaney in 1862.My guess is the William Geoghegan you are looking for is the son of either John Geoghegan or James Geoghegan.
James Roe Geoghegan (1842-1889), second son of James Hugh Geoghegan (1811-1893) and Harriet Geoghegan (1820-1864), married first Amelia I. (1846-1868) and second Amelia E. (1838-1878).James Roe's siblings include:
1. Martha Elizabeth Geoghegan(1836-)
2. Moses Henry Geoghegan (1838-1915) see below
3. Susan Geoghegan (1841-)
4. James Roe (1842-1889)
5. Joseph Geoghegan (1845-1867)
6. Hariot Virginia Geoghegan (1848-1918)
7. Augustus Philmore Geoghegan (1851-1935) my great grandfather who married Margaret Ida Maguire (1856-1925)
Moses Henry Geoghegan(1838-1915), first son of James Hugh Geoghegan (1811-1893) and Harriet Geoghegan (1820-1864), married Almira (Jane) Wallace (1843-1916), and had the following children:
1. James Aaron Geoghegan (1864-1960)
2. Mary Virginia Geoghegan (1866-1937)
3. Joseph Henry Geoghegan (1868-)
4. Edward Foster Geoghegan (1870-1870)
5. Jefferson Roe Geoghegan (1871-1956)
6. Harrriot Levinia Geoghegan (1872-1955)
7. Benjamin Franklin Geoghegan (1874-)
8. Ida Cornelia Geoghegan (1875-1960)
9. Willaim Norman Geoghegan (1878-)
10. Charles Augustus Geoghegan (1880-1953)
11. Carrie Maud Geoghegan (1882-1957)
James Hugh Geoghegan (1811-1893) is the second son of William Geoghegan (1772-1822) and Martha Geoghegan (1783-1820)
Harriot Geoghegan (1820-1864) is the daughter of of Philemon Geoghegan (1774-1840) and Elizabeth Brooks (1778-1849)
William Geoghegan (1772-1822) and Philemon Geoghegan (1774-1840) are both sons of Philemon Geoghegan (1735-1774) and Penelope Pattison (1742-1807)
Martha Geoghegan (1783-1820) is the daughter of John Geoghegan (1756-) and Diannah(-1815) and the sister of William Geoghegan (1781-1853) in paragraph 1 above.
Philemon Geoghegan (1734-1774) and John Geoghegan (1756-) are both sons of William Geoghegan (1704-1777) the Irish emigrant and Levinia LeCompte (1717-1808)
After you draw this out, you will appreciate the term kissing cousins!
Good Luck.
