Edward Gatty England 1811, possible Getty connections

I am interested in anything that bears on this subject since I have been told by an authoritative source

1 that Gatty is a very common anglicization of Getty ( there certainly seem to be more Gatty than Getty names in Great Britain)

2. that Getty in Ireland is a recognized modification of Dalgetty and Dalgetty, both of which names link to an area in Fife, Scotland. Possibly they also link to the to the Hay clan, although this is disputed, and I have heard an alternative thesis that the name links to the Geddes clan.

My own Gatty links in the UK are to a great great grandfather Edward in Lancashire, near the port of Liverpool and just across the sea from Ireland. We have never been able to trace his parentage. I should be glad to hear from anyone that cares to comment.
