Seeking further information about CARROLL ORWIG GETTY.
Birth dates conflict wildly (1875, 1880, 1881, 1885.
I chose the date on file at Kansas University as the likely
actual date; March 29, 1885. He was the son of John Getty and his wife Carolyn "Carrie" Orwig Getty.
John Getty was born in Martinburg, Blair Co. PA in 1841 and was raided and educated in his native state. He moved to Oswego, Kansas in 1870 where followed merchandising until 1874. He married Carrie Oswig in 1871. she was born March 22, 1853 in Bethel, Blair Co. PA, the daughter of a local minister. He engaged in milling in Rossville, Kansas before moving to Ellsworth in 1878. There he founded the firm of J. Getty and Co., proprietors of the Getty and Larkin Steam Flouring Mills and Elevator. The erection of the mills were completed January 1880 and the elevator in 1882.

They had several children.Sarah, born in 1880, John, born in 1882 and Carroll in 1885.
Sarah Catherine Getty married a Jackson Jacob Hagen on October 27, 1915 in Ellsworth, Kansas. Sarah died in Oakland, St. Louis, MO on January 30, 1975.
Jack and Sarah had a daughter, Carolyn Getty Hagen who married a Frank Gibson Myers in St. Louis.
John Getty Jr. became an automobile mechanic and in 1920 owned a garage in Laramie, WY. He late moved to Denver, CO. where he owned another auto repair garage. He married a Canadian woman named Marjorie who was a musician and played the organ in local theatres. They had a daughter.
Carroll Orwig Getty was raised and educated in Ellsworth.
He started attending the University of Kansas in September of 1902. In 1902/03 he was a freshman, 1903/04 a sophomore, 1904/05 there's no record of attendence, 1905/06 he was a junior and a first year medical student. In 1906/07 he was a senior. He graduated from K.U. in June of 1907 with a batchelor's degree. He was known there as a "friendly fellow" and also as "a reformer, inclinations are toward the limelight, has literary ambition, wrote "All It Takes Is Nerve, and I've Got It".
In 1910 he was living in Ellworth with his widowed mother, who gave music lessons, and his older sister, Sarah. He taught high school at this time.
At some time after 1910 he attended Rush University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Rush in 1914. He also studied medicine at Michigan University.
In 1916 he spent six months or so working for a mining and smeltering company in Northport, WA, near the Canadian border. He was physician to the many employees who lived in the company owned town.
By 1920 Carroll was back in Chicago where he acquired a fine reputation as a diagnostician. He was the resident physician for the city YMCA.
Dr. Getty had an appendicitus operation in the spring of 1929 which caused his death on April the fourth.
