In searching for my ancestor, Samuel B. Haslett, b. 1847, I found a Samuel B. Hoslet, age 3, living with Robert, b. c 1811 in Scotland or Pennsylvania, and Emily (Emiline), b. 1817 NY, in Newtown, Queens, NY, in the 1850 Census. The Getty (spelled Gitty in 1850) children are: Cordelia, b. 1836 NY; Sarah, b. 1839 NY; Emily, b. 1842; Juliet, b. 1847 and John R., b. 1849. Richard is listed as a weaver from Scotland, but in 1860 he is a carpenter from Pennsylvania living in Astoria, Queens, NY. By 1860 Cordelia is gone, the child emily is listed as Elvina, Juliet is spelled Junietta.
In 1870 Robert has apparently died. The family is still living in Astoria, Queens. Mother Emily is now listed as born in Pennsylvania, daughter Emily is a tailoress as is Juiliette, while John R. is a brick mason.
I thought you folks looking for the Getty family in NY would be interested.
I am wondering why Samuel B. Hoslet was living with the Getty family in 1850. Can anyone help?
