Is it known who was the first American Getty? Where he landed and how long he remained there? If his name has recorded variant spellings? What country & region he hailed from?
We are attempting to piece together the Scots parentage of our first American Geddie, JAMES DANIEL GEDDIE (at times spelled with variants), and who is recorded to have landed at Cape Fear NC 1772. This family abounded in Moray/Fife regions of Scotland. James served in the American Revolution (certified) and his spouse was either ISABELLA or CATHERINE McPhail (possibly both, but NOT at the same time). The McPhail and Geddie families settled in Cumberland County NC (Wade-Stedman) areas, and their progeny then moved west, south, and eventually some settled in northeasern TEXAS.
Any correlations with Getty family history appreciated!
