wilmer gheen&hattie
my great-great-grandfather was wilmer gheen .he was a ship's master for 46 years.he was at fort sumter when the shooting started and sailed for the governor of delaware who named his ship the "hattie gheen"to honor capt. gheen's wife.they lived in port elizabeth ,new jersey and are buried there at the united methodist cemetery .he sailed around the world, collected his own wood to build his home with cyprus, and it still stands on quaker avenue,in port elizabeth. he was a large man and well known for his navigation .he and hattie visited the st. louis fair of 1904 and brought iced tea home and spoke of ice cream cones.they were related in some way to "buffalo bill "cody and visited him in pennsylvania ,where hattie, wagging her finger across the table, condemned himfor lowering himself by going into show biz!he lived well into his 90's !
