This portrait of Charles Gibb appears as front piece illustration to The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XIII, no.6, 1890. There is also a biographical sketch of him on pages 159-162 of that volume. Charles Gibb was born in Montreal, Canada on 30 June 1846. He often was of ill health and traveled frequently as a means of recuperation. He became very involved in fruit science and horticulture. He died on the 8th of March 1890 while traveling in Egypt.
