I don't know if this is of any help but I've found a Josefa Gil de Taboada in the Ellis Island list of inmigrants (www.ellisisland.org). Josefa is traveling May 20, 1920 in the ship "S.S. Ponce" from San Juan to New York. She is traveling with her husband Jose Fuentes and daughter Eugenia Fuentes. Her date/place of birth is listed as Dec 4 1860 in San Juan, PR. Note that Jose Fuentes is actually 13 years younger than Josefa (b. Aug 30, 1873), Eugenia is 8 years old (b. Sep 6, 1912). This means that Josefa had her daughter when she was 52 years old! Also note that Jose and Eugenia are listing a different address than Josefa in N.Y. (?)

This information does not coincide with your (census) records but maybe Josefa remarried?
