My grandfather's name was Jose Gil and he came from the Basque Country in Spain. I guess he was born at the end of the 1800's. From Spain he went to Mexico for a little while and then lived in New York for the rest of his days. He was Married to Angelita Rodriguez (also Spanish) and had 7 children, my mom Carmen Gil being one of them. My grandfather died around 1972 in New York.
