Hi!My father was Tyrell Thompson Gilb (born in Pasadena, CA).His father was George Roy Gilb (b. in Cincinnati).Dad's grandfather, was Michael Gilb (born 1855, Ohio), presumably the same Michael as the father of Howard W. Gilb (William Howard Gilb is presumably the same man). The 1910 census in Cincinnati lists Michael Gilb and wife Emma having children Ada, Mary, Alma, and Howard W. (age 11) still at home.In the 1900 census, Michael and Emma Gilb have the following children listed: Lullie (Mollie?), Ada, Agustane, Julia, George (my frandfather), Mary, Alma, and Frank.Michael was a chemist at Fleishman Yeast, and also started a paint company, and started Royal Ink. According to my father (deceased in 2001), Michael Gilb and "Granny" (presumably Emma) moved to California around the 20's to live with their son George Roy Gilb (my grandfather).George was a purchasing agent for an auto company (starting about 1914 - later on he owned or managed various auto dealerships), and was married to Adele Charlotte Tyrell (there is Adella Cora Tyrell listed in the old Tyrell family bible, so this is a bit confusing).George & Adele had three children: Tyrell Thompson (my father, b. 1916), Lorraine Charolotte (b. 1919), and Adele Genevieve (b. '23).(I myself have a sister, two half sisters and a half-brother...our dad -- Tyrell T. Gilb -- married twice: first to Ruth Barlett in '39, then to my mother, Corinne Lathrop , in '45).Anyway, my dad once said that he thought that Michael Gilb's father was a mining engineer or manufacturer of mining equipment.(Might have also had a brother, who went to Texas?).Dad said his grandfather told him that the Gilb name was originally different/longer, and was changed upon arrival at the point of immigration in America (arrived maybe 1830-35?). Rumors of the family possibly coming from a "Gilbette or Gilbeti family" in Piedmont in Italy, in the 13th-14th century (according to notes by my half-brother Tom, from a conversation with Dad), but that seems unlikely since Dad's grandparents spoke German in the home.Someone (Dad?) found a disply of Gilbetti (Gilbretti?) family history in the Augsburg (Augsberg? small town near Munich) City Museum. Not sure about all that part...Anyone else know?
