Patrick Gildea, US Cavalryman from Donegal

I was recently over across the water talking to my uncle Pat McKelvey whose maternal grandfather was Patrick Gildea from Brocka, Co. Donegal. He served in the United States Cavalry during the War between the States. He left New York and returned to Donegal around 1876. He received a pension as did his widow in turn.
I am going to try and find out more as Uncle Pat just turned 80 !
