I don't have any documentation for what follows. That said, it is possible to draw some inferences from proximity to neighbors in 1830 and 1840 (and earlier). This, with the process of elimination for the families which have some surviving records can provide at least a reasonable conjecture which adheres to the various census head counts.
I have Jesse Gilikin, son of Thomas Gillikin and Mary (possibly a second wife) for the father of James Gillikin. I believe Jesse Gillikin and Comfort Hill had several children, including possibly:
1) George Decatur Gilliin who m'd 6 Jul 1820 to Patty Piner.
2) William Jesse? Gillikin who m'd 27 May 1823 to Mary Gillikin.
3) James Gillikin who m'd 26 Feb 1828 to Charlotte Gillikin.
4) Thamer Gillikin who m'd 13 Sep 1825 to Amos Gillikin.
Of course this is subject to change if any record surfaces which is in contradiction.
