Typos possible Russell Wade Gilly, 71, of Big Stone Gap, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his home. He was born on December 9, 1937, and lived in Powell Valley, VA. He served his nation proudly in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Lee and then Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 1956-1959. He was a retiree of Pet Dairy in Big Stone Gap with 23 years of service. He was a willing and humble servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with more than 35 years of dedication as an active member of the Powell Valley Presbyterian Church. During the 35 years of his service, he faithfully served the church in various positions, including deacon, elder, clerk of the session, and Sunday School teacher at Powell Valley, Mount Carmel, and the Stone Presbyterian Churches. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gilly; mother, Nellie Poole Gilly; brothers, Emory and Vernon Gilly; and sisters, Anna Gilly Gibson and Edna Gilly. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Phyllis Sizemore Gilly, of the home; two sons, Russell Wade 'Rusty' Gilly, Jr., and Anthony Robin Gilly and wife, Sonia Chisenhall Gilly; one daughter, Melody Gilly Farris and husband, Todd Farris, all of Big Stone Gap, VA; three grandchildren, Jeremy Wade Gilly and wife, Kasey Gilly, Aaron Christopher Gilly, and Hannah Brooke Gilly; one brother, John Gilly, Jr. and wife, Carmon Trammell Gilly; two sisters, Nila Gilly Rines and husband, E. C. Rines, all of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Audrey Gilly Meroney and husband, John Meroney of Bermuda Run, NC; two sisters-in- law, Billie Gilly of Powell Valley and Doris Gilly of Big Stone Gap; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many faithful friends. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., March 24, 2009 at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, VA. Funeral services followed in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Tony Palubicki officiating. Special music offered by Dianne Bloomer. Graveside services were Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, VA, with military rights by Local V.F.W. and D.A.V. Units. Family and friends assembled at Gilliam Funeral Home to leave in procession at 10:30 a.m., to go to the cemetery. Family served as pallbearers. Gilliam Funeral Home is serving the Gilly family.
