Kina:You may be right that the Gilleys went from VA to NC and not the opposite.I just started looking into the family a few months ago and haven't really digested all the information I have. I started by checking white pages listings in Litchfield, IL, birthplace of my grandfather, and up popped Rex Gilly.Turns out he is 96 and is a new of my great Grandfather and a cousin of my Dad's (though he never spoke of him.) I spoke with his daughter by phone, and she forward information about the Gilleys in Litchfield, and how they got there. Turns out my Great Grandfather, George Washington Gilley, Jr. came from Big Stone Gap, VA.From there I started talking to James M. Gilley, the fellow I spoke of before and from whom you've received at least one e-mail (jimgill2). He provided me with more information and an index of the book I spoke of. It's the index that I've used to try the James Madison Gilley you spoke of.
I'm running on a bit.If your family is from that area, we're probably connected. I just haven't found out where yet. None of the names AS A GROUP match anything I have, though the individual names appear on lists I have, and they repeat quite often. My Grandfather's name was Jasper Patrick Pridemore Gilley, and he had a cousin named Patrick Pridemore Phipps. Seems odd to me. It would suggest a prior Patrick Pridemore somewhere, but I can't find one.
Anyway, I look some more. Thanks for responding.
