hi, brenda.
my great great grandmother was kate gingles, county antrim, n.i.
she married andrew mcilwaine, also of co. antrim.
their daughter, jane mcilwaine, was born in county antrim in 1846.
jane mcilwaine emigrated to new york city and married arthur mccaig in 1846.
they settled in the shamokin area of pa.
and raised 12 children to adulthood.one child died early; the first and last record of her was in 1881 when she was 3 years old.
their names seem to duplicate other gingles and mcilwaines i have found on the internet
1. george beauregard mccaig (perhaps a personal political statement.)
2. jane gilland mccaig
3. ann lawson mccaig *
4. sarah elizabeth mccaig
5. isabel mccaig
6. william dougal mccaig
7. fannie helen mccaig
8. francis boyd mccaig
9. arthur mccaig
10.margaret mcfee mccaig
11. noah ulmer mccaig
12. robert bruce mccaig (perhaps a statement of their centuries old scottish roots.)
ellen mccaig was the child who did not live into adulthood.
as you have studied the gingle surname, i was hoping you may have come across references to these gingles.because of the date of birth of jane mcilwaine, i am surmising (perhaps incorrectly) andrew and kate gingles mcilwaine were married circa early 1840s and born circa 18teens or 20.
thank you for any leads you might have. looking forward to hearing from you.
kate mccaig
