I am a direct descendant of Samuel Gingles and Margaret McAlister.Baron van Reede is said to have fathered a child, the beginning of the Gingles family, in 1690 while serving as a commander for William of Orange in Northern Ireland.Sources say that van Reede was born in 1674, which would make him only 16 at the time he allegedly fathered that child and was serving as a military leader, and it would have been 18 years before he married his wife Maria in 1708.Also, one source lists his ("legitimate")children with his wife Maria as being two girls, while another source says that he had a son named for him.Something has to be amiss timewise and otherwise. Can anyone shed light on these enigmas?
Also, I have been completely unsuccessful in finding any information as to:
1. The parents of Samuel Gingles and whether or not he was the son, grandson, etc. of Baron van Reede.
2. Who was the child fathered by Baron van Reede.
3. Who was the mother of that child.
4. Whether the Baron fathered siblings of that child.
Anyone, especially who lives in County Antrim, NI, have any reliable information on these things?
Thanks.
