Keith, thank you for the information about the possible derivation of this name. It's interesting to me, especially, as I have learned from my great-grandfather's book that his mother's family lived in Koenigsburg, Germany (now Kaliningrad, Lithuania).
Also, another source for alternative spellings of Ginsburg is Jewishgen; I find many very intriguing possibilities on their site.
