I am looking for a little assitance in discovering my line of ancestory. From what I know and reading over some posts here I have gathered the following information.
I copied this text from multiple posts.
there is some confusion here which i will try to explain as I go.
Toney, Tom, age 26
Toney, Nancy, age 36, wife
Girty, Jacob, age 8, stepson, full Cherokee
The above information is from a 1910 census which would make jacob girty's birthdate approx 1901 (jeff jacob girty)
jeff being known as jacob or jeff also confuses the situation, altho I do believe this is him by reading the following.
Jeff Grity age 18 and Miss Lue Duncan age 24, both from Porum Okla., issued in McIntosh Co., Okla, Book 6 Page 286. The next line says"...issued to Jeff Girty and Miss Lue Duncan. His mother, Nancy Toney signed giving permission for Jeff to marry. Nancy Toney was previously married to Snake Girty, Jeff father.
Here it lists Jeff's mother as Nancy Toney the same woman from the first statement, it also lists that she was previously married to snake girty. This would confirm the statement on the census saying jeff was a stepson.
Marriage 1 Jacob Jeff GIRTY b: 25 DEC 1901 in Webbers Falls,Canadian District, Indian Territory
The last statement gives Jacob Jeff Girty being his full name followed by his birthdate which i can verify, he is buried next to my grandmother in cramp cemetery just a few miles from my home. My father is also buried nearby along with several of his siblings.
I also have a few other things, My fathers name is Kennith Wilson Girty. My name is Kennith Wilson Girty Jr.
I was always told that the wilson came from someone we were related to in the past before we (the girty's) came to oklahoma.
If anyone has any information they could help with, or anyone I could perhaps help with information please feel free to post and ask me, or to email me.
Thank you all for your help, sorry for the lengthy post
