Hi Sandy,

I never went to the reunion, since another one I went to was on the same day. I haven't heard much about the reunion, just a little. I talked to Ken Girty of Butler, PA and he told me that there was one lady from the Oklahoma clan that showed up. There were no great finds regarding making a connection with them though.

I have been looking through everything I can find to try to coonect the OK Girtys with the PA Girtys, so far no luck. The more I look the more I think they are not descendants of George. All the records I've seen that mention George's kids only mention two, a son named George who settled at Zanesville, OH, and a daughter who married Chief White Eyes. Ken Girty said he doesn't doubt that Simon, James and George had a few kids out of wedlock and they may be the ones in OK. The brothers were quite well known among the various tribes and its possible the family just adopted that name when required to do so for land. Its hard to tell.

I've gone through most of the census records from 1867 through 1920 in Oklahoma and according to Jack's descendants, Jack and his wife were from Georgia. There's no record of the famous Girty brothers ever getting near that place. Its a little frustrating.

I am ordering some records from the National Archives regarding the Civil War pension applications of Wilson, Snake and Stud Girty. Usually these provide some ancestral clues. I hope they do. I've also been trying to figure out if Jack was Snake's father. Every record I've found says he was not. Except one, which had a marginal note that he was, but it looked like it was added after the fact. Not even Snake knew who his father was. He must have died while Snake was young. The only connections I can find to Snake are his mother, one brother and an uncle. The uncle was Old Ned and the brother had no English name. I think the mother was Tah-ne, I'd have to check my records. Snake's sons said that Snake's wife was a sister of Buck and Wilson, but she is not listed as a descendant in the 1896 payroll. More checking on this needed.

I do have quite a few tax records and payment rolls copied that I will start posting on this board soon. The Girty lists are long and provide some clues. Bob Neely sent me a picture of Wilson Girty and one of his daughters. I can send this if you like.

Thats about all for now. Jim
