I have the same book, I am curious if you or anyone else knows when the extra t was added in the Githens name. I have heard stories that my Great Grandfather Jackson Douthet Gitthens added an extra t after his second marriage. Then one of my Aunts said that she remembered spelling it with one t. Know one in my family seems to know for sure, they just know that somebody added an extra t for some unknown reason. Thanks for any info you can provide.
