Major was a first cousin of my great, great grandfather, Col Henry Gladwin

He is mentioned in the book by Kenneth Roberts "Northwest Passage" as he made a trip with Roger's Rangers.

He was second only to God in the Detroit area for saving them from Pontiac and if you do a Google on Gladwin MI you will find many many parks, libraries Etc, Etc named after him.

I have email you a bit about the Maj. and his pic. I have several pics of various sites named after him in MI.

I would very much like to get some info on my great, great grandfather and grandmother.

Henry Arthur Gladwin (2nd son of Charles and Frances Stanhope Gladwin) was born in Fort William, Bengal, India, 1789.  Educated in Eton and Cambridge, he was Captain of the 19th Lancers, Fanes' Horse, India and later Military Aide to Sir John Sherbrooke, with whom he came to Canada.  He married Charlotte Wollery Bourke Oct.3, 1822, and in 1828 came to Nova Scotia with his wife and mother.  As an officer in the Army, he received a Grant of land in Glenmore, but settled first on property he bought from "Good Matthew Archibald".  Later, he gave this to his son Bourke; (owned by Smith Archibald, 1980).  Colonel Gladwin then purchased La Prairie farm from Captain Rayne and brought up his family, there.  He remained a very prominent man all his life.

Thanks
