Between 1820 and 1830 over 50,000 people crossed the Atlantic to escape a variety of famine, persecution and disease.
My own ancestors left Ireland in 1845 at the time of the potatoe famine but didn't get as far as yours - they sailed to Glasgow, Scotland and we have been here ever since!
