Obituary, Gordon Glancy
The following obituary is posted on the O'Connell Family Funeral Home website:"Gordon C. Glancy, age 91 years and 8 months, of Maplewood died Wednesday August 7, 2002 at Lake Ridge Care Center of Roseville, MN. Gordon was born in St. Paul, MN on December 7, 1910, the son of Glen Lawrence and Marie (Koci) Glancy. He attended Mechanic Arts High School and worked briefly for the City of St. Paul and the St. Paul Daily News. He started work for the Theodore Hamm Brewing Company in 1938 and retired as a brewer in 1975. Gordon served in the US Army, Company C, 592 Engineer Boat & Shore Regiment in the Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon in the South Pacific during WWII. He wed Betty Jean Norgard on November 2, 1942 at St. Columba Catholic Church in St. Paul and to this union they were blessed with three sons, Gary, Thomas and Glen. Gordon enjoyed fishing on Balsam Lake (in WI) and traveling throughout the US and Europe. He and Betty resided in Las Cruces, NM from 1984-1995. Survivors are his sons Gary (Dr. Alana Altnow) Glancy of Wilson, WI, Thomas (Sheila) Glancy of Woodbury, MN, Glen (Bonnie) Glancy of St. Paul, MN, Grandchildren Jeff, Brian, Katie Glancy, Amanda (Tony Nowezki) Gorman, Emily Gorman, great-grandchildren Jordan, Samantha and Sarah; sister-in-law Nancy (Wayne) Swanson of Lake City, MN; loving friend and companion Bea Elmquist of Maplewood, MN. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his wife Betty (1995.)(Military services and burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN August 14, 2002)
