Hi Jason and Summer
In Walter Burgess Smith's book, published in 1986, he mentioned the following, the primary researchers asked him not to include the data but he did any way. I do not understand why he included it with out back up data. As you seem interested in researching, I will list what he had to say, it might lead you to some information that would help in your research.
Walter Smith's SPECULATIVE PART:
Peter Glancy was born about 1703, no doubt in Ireland, Bally Bay Parish, county Monaghan. He probably died by early 1771 in East Bradford Township, Chester Co., Pa. He was married about 1727 probably in Ireland to Jane, whose last name could have been Dennis, who was the daughter of Charles Dennis, she died in late 1778 in East Bradford Township. Peter and his wife may have sailed for America shortly after their wedding, arriving in Philadelphia about 1727.They may have gone directly to the northern part of Chester Co., Pa., their place of residence in later years. It is probable that Peter was employed in the iron mines for the rest of his working life. There was a David Clancy of record in Chester Co., in 1754, he could have been the same person as the 19 year old David Glance who set sail in 1725 from Edinburgh for the new world and, if a brother or other close relative of Peter's, the possible reason why Peter choose to settle in Chester County. ( David's record-Chester Co., Pa. Tax discount list, 1754, page 158, microfilm of the original record examined at the Chester Co., archives).
Scant record of Peter's life in Chester Co., has survived. In 1753, probably retired, is taxed as a tenant in Birmingham Township and again in 1765 and 1766. By 1769 he has moved to East Bradford Township where he is taxed that year as a tenant. He disappeared from the tax list in 1771 suggesting that he had died. His widow Jane, died intestate in East Bradford Township, and on 6 Jan 1779 her estate was administered by Mary King. It seems quite possible that Mary was her daughter. (The original records have been examined, see abstracts of wills of Chester Co., 3: 44).
There is more that I will post later. This should give you something to research. Peter is speculatively James' grand father, with Owen his father. I'll post that info later.
Cecil
