The speculative part continues:
Possible children of Peter and Jane Dennis Glancy, all born in Chester Co., Pa. are:
1. Charles, born about 1729, married 18 July 1751 at Gloria Dei Church in Philadelphia, to Catherine Vaugh, nothing further known.
2. Dennis Glancy born about 1731.
3. Terrance Glancy born about 1735.
4. William Glancy born about 17141.
5. Owen Glancy born about 1744.
6. Mary Glancy born about 1747, married -----King, living in 1779 when she administrated her mother's estate, nothing further known.
Now Walter begins the FACTUAL part:
DENNIS (2 above) was born about 1731, he died soon after 1790 probably at Philadelphia, Pa. Dennis and his wife settled in Philadelphia by 1766, if not earlier, when they had a child baptised their.Dennis entered the Revolution early, but he tired of service in the Pennsylvania Continental Line and switched to the 2nd regiment of the Pa. militia in 1777. On 22 April Captain John Coates of the 11th regiment published a notice in the Pa. Evening Post offeringten pounds for Dennis's where abouts as he was aged 45, five foot seven inches tall, had deserted from his company, speaks much in the Irish accent and is very fond of liquor.
But as of 10 July 1777, Dennis was serving as a private 5th class in Captain Jacob Sink's Company, 2nd Militia Regiment, Col. Sharp Delancy commanding. Dennis served in various companies of militia until the end of the war with no further mention of deserting.
Dennis and Susanna, his wife, and their known children, presuably born in Philadelphia and baptised at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Willing's Alley, were:
i, Mary Glancy, born 7 July 1766, baptised 13 July 1766.
ii. John Glancy, born 14 March 1772, baptised 22 March 1772.
and possibly
iii. Ferdinand Glancy, born before 1773, apparently died 1793.
TERRANCE Glancy (3 above) was born about 1735 as listed above and died about 1784 in Newberry Township, York Co., Pa.He married about 1755 to a wife we do not know.
The children of Terrance and his wife were:
i. Jesse Glancy, born 1756, married Rachael Coopeland, a Quaker, and had five children. He saw action at the battleof Brandywine, Pa., and Monmouth, N.J. and no doubt spent the winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge under General George Washington, he was identified in the first version of the roll as a York County resident. He had a residence in York County in 1790 and 1800 and settled in Stonelick Township, Clermont Co., Ohio in 1804.
ii. Joseph Glancy born 29 May 1758, married 1st Margaret Kelton and 2nd Martha Willits and had nine childrern. He served 1781 in the York County Militia and had a household ion York County in 1800. His ferry slip was opposite the mouth of the Swatara River and as commissioner of York County, he planned the County's first road network, signed a letter to President Jefferson and was a ferryman across the Susquehanna River.
iii. William Glancy, born about 1761, served 1781 in the York County Militia, had a household in York County in 1790, died before 1805. Two of his children, James and Elizabeth, accompanied his brother Jesse in his move to Ohio and are believed to have descendent's there today.
iv. Jacob Glancy, born about 1769, elected a commissioner in York County in 1804, nothing more is known.
WILLIAM Glancy (4 above)born about 1741, died after 1810 probably in Cumberland County, Pa. He married about 1767 in Cumberland County to Elizabeth Searight, daughter of Gilbert Searight of Cumberland County.
The children of William and Elizabeth , born in Cumberland County were:
i. William Glancy Jr., born 1 Nov 1768, baptised at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Willing's Lane, Philadelphia. Had a household in North Middleton Township in 1820.
ii. Thomas Glancy (Twin) born 1 Nov 1768 , baptised with William.
5. OWEN Glancy, born about 1744, died about 1804 presumably at Honey Brook, Chester County. He evidently was married first on 23 Feb 1765 at Gloria Dei Church of Philadelphia, to Martha Warton or Barton, if Barton perhaps she was the daughter of an older brother of Thomas Barton, he married 2nd, about 1777 probably in Lower Providence Township, Berks County, Pa., to Elizabeth Pawling, daughter of Barney Pawling and grand daughter of Henry Pawling, who came to Lower Providence before 1719 from Ulster County, N.Y.
I will add more later on Owen and his childrern.
Cecil
