I have a reference to a Jesse Gleaves for Gleaves researchers with Jesse in their line...that he sold Harvesting machines as follows. Please feel free to pass on to those you think may be interested..particularly in Jesse. April 20 l893 Tuckers Crossroads, The Observor, the Lebanon Democrat... ...Mr Jessie Gleaves, also of the same place spent last Friday night at the home of your scribe. Mr. Gleaves is canvassing in the interest of celebrated McCormick harvesters and is never better suited than when finding a man to whom he can talk machine talk. ...... In addition.. May ll, l893... Jessie Gleaves representing the McCormick Harvesters was making one of his best machine talks last Friday to one of our neighbors and about the time he rturned him loose he was himself accosted by a gentleman from Trousdale county who did his best to sell him a washing machine. Gleaves of course got loose by telling him that he knew nothing abotu washing machines and that he would have to see Mrs. Gleaves. The agent took down her name and it wont be long until she has a chance to buy a washer. Neighbor and I endeavored to get them to swap machines the binder for the washer, but washing machine man got out by saying he was no farmer. I have seen candidates so thick that they had to electioneer each other for the want of the other material to work on, but never before have I seen agents tackle each other..."
