Robert.... Yes, this Elizabeth Smith , Sarah Smith/Gleaves connection is very confusing. I will try to explain my theory of how they are relative. It is in my book,"Ezekiel's Children", and its all about that Capt. Ezekiel Smith who died in Davidson CO TN 1821. Will contested in 1822 that names 8 children.
The history of this man includes when he earlier lived in Washington Dist NC, later Washington CO NC, now Washington Co TN on Kendricks Creek at Watauga River, and in Wash. CO. Minute Book 1 Page 209 dated 6 May 1783 when Austin Choate released his share of the Thomas Choate Estate to Squire Smith, Sarah Smith, John Smith Thomas Smith and witnessed by Emanuel Carter,, James Hollis,, Ezekiel Smith and William Cocke.
Thomas, Austin and Emanuel et al were brothers and sons of Christopher Choate 11. And Emanuel's ( killed by Indians 1774) wife was a Cherokee. Ca 1774 Ezekiel Smith married Widow Choate, and these were her children.... now Smith but born Choate. The book explains that they later came to Davidson CO..... and Sarah (Sally) married Thomas Gleaves (Bond by brother Thomas Smith)
As to Sally Smith, dau of Ezekiel that married Noel Watkins
ande later moved to Trigg CO KY. Then Nancy Smith her sister married Macijah Watkins moved to Independence CO AR.
And to better understand this and the Smith-Choate Connection you may get better understanding by reading the book. You can order one, or if you want only the Chapters related to your questions,I can copy and mail these pages..
Yes, Ezekiel Smith had 2 wives as determined by difference in ages of children. Bill
