I have viewed the Gordon Aronhime Papers for Esther Rafferty, card 3 (and other cards). Here is my opinion. I think that the top line originally read "Rafferty, Thomas". Then Thomas was crossed out and "Esther" was written above the crossed out "Thomas". I think the second line originally read "Rafferty, Esther". Then I think somebody tried to write "Born" over "Rafferty" and saw that it was difficult to make out and then wrote "Born" between the two line in the middle.
The bottom line is I do not think that Gordon Aromhime knew Esther's maiden name. I also do not think that Gordon Aromhime understood that Esther's first husband was Matthew "Gleaves" or "Glaves" as other cards suggest that he used the spelling in Chalkley's abstracts of Augusta Co., VA records in which he used the spelling "Grove".
