Sorry this has taken me so long to respond. For some reason when I go to this site, it tells me there are still only 62 messages posted, when yours is #66.
I have a James Bartlett Gleaves, born January 12, 1889 and died in June of 1971. James is listed in the Social Security Death Index. His obituary appeared in the Nashville Tennessean on June 6, 1971. I found this last item on the website of the Tennessee State Library and Archives. I do not have any info on his wife so can't say for sure that this is your James.
My records show the daughter Margie and her husband, although I have no documentation other than some info I found on Ancestry.com.
James was the son of James Thomas("Jim T.") and Lena Parrish Gleaves. Jim T. was a civil war veteran and lived to be 100 years of age (1845-1945). I have several bios done on him that I will gladly share if you are interested. Jim and Lena appear to have lived apart from sometime after the birth of their 3 children.
James Bartlett is the 7th generation in a line from Matthew (see Bob Allen's post towards the bottom dated 12/5/1999).
If you go to the site of The Friends of the Metro Nashville Archives, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/3661/ and click on Davidson County Marriages it will also bring up obituaries as well. This is where I found James. A quick search this morning did not turn up a "Belle Gleaves". I'm wondering if that may be a nickname? I did spot a "Hazel B." The records also contain a number of individuals named Bruce as well.
Hope this helps.
