Dear Ann,
I was searching through the GLEDHILL message board and noticed that you also have GLEDHILLs in Leeds. Sadly I don't think there is a link with my family. I was more interested in your mentioning of a VARLEY mills in Stanningley. There is a street called Varley street that used to lead to a mill called Leigh Mills. Leigh Mills has stood on this site since at least 1852 perhaps under a different name. You might be aware that Stanninley was at one time the center of many mills around that time. Leigh Mills used to stand on what is now the site of the ASDA Superstore in Pudsey. (Pudsey borders on Stanningley and the mill stood right on the divide.) My father used to work at the mill in 1934. Interestingly enough another of my relatives that I have discovered through research owns an antiques shop that faces the entrance to Varley Street. My fathers mother was called GLEDHILL before she married my grandfather. This is how I came to look at the GLEDHILL forum. I hope that the information on Leigh Mills might prove useful.
Good luck with your research.
King regards,
David WOOD.
