Andrew:
The government site scotlandspeople.gov.uk has online searchable birth registrations. I have some Glennie stats from there, but about 100 years too early to locate your William b 1887. If you have his mother's name it may be possible to locate his registration. At the least you will have some possibilities to consider. The 1881, 1891 census records may tag where his mother was employed as servant plus locate her with a toddler on the 1891 list. The records show a lot of variation of the surname, my ancestor was found under spellings Glennie, Glenie, Gleney, Glenny.

Dianne
