James GLENNIE of Scotland
Posted by: Janet Tennent Date: November 04, 2000 at 16:44:43

I am looking for information on James GLENNIE of Scotland. James was born in Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland about 1838 to Alexander GLENNIE and his wife Elizabeth WATSON. Alexander was in the Coast Guard and was living in Greenock, Renfrew, Sct. when James GLENNIE married Mary GRIEVE (also spelled GREAVES). James GLENNIE and Mary GRIEVE (b. abt. 1840 in Greenock, Renfrew,Sct.) married on 9 Mar 1863 in Greenock, Renfrew, Sct. James GLENNIE was a tinsmith. James GLENNIE and Mary GRIEVE had the following children:
Isabella GLENNIE b. 9 Apr 1863
Thomas GLENNIE b. 3 Jun 1865
James GLENNIE b. 4 Jun 1867
Mary William Grieve GLENNIE b. 6 Apr 1870
Alexander GLENNIE b. 29 Aug 1872
all born in various parts of Greenock, Renfrew, Sct. On the 1871 census James GLENNIE and Mary GRIEVE are living in Gourock, Inverkip, Renfrew, Sct. with only Isabella and baby Mary. Thomas and James are not there, not sure if they had died or were elsewhere that evening. Alexander had not been born yet. The family completly disappears by the 1881 census, father, mother and all five children. I am looking at the possiblity that the family moved to another country. James GLENNIE had a younger sister Celina GLENNIE that married a John (?) INGRAM and they eventually moved to Austrailia. I can find no trace of Alexander GLENNIE (father of James GLENNIE), Elizabeth WATSON or the other siblings except Celina. One of James GLENNIE's brother was Cornelis. Any help I would appreciate as would the decendents of Celina GLENNIE that I have been in touch with. If you can help email me at jtennent@erols.com
Thanks Janet Tennent
