Hi, Michael. It's nice to meet another cousin in this line. I believe that I've found the family in West Riding, Yorkshire, England, in 1841:

1841 Census, Normanton, Yorkshire, England
(ages rounded down to the nearest 5)

John GLUE, 35, Brickmaker
Mary GLUE, 40
William GLUE, 15
Ann GLUE, 13
Mary GLUE, 10
Phebe GLUE, 5
John GLUE, 3
Thomas GLUE, 2 mos
Jane GLUE, 7
(all born in same county)

Everyone fits except John's wife Mary and in the 10 years between that census and the 1851 census in Markham :

1851 Census Markham Twp., York Co., Ontario, Canada
GLUE, John - Brick maker - England - Methodist - 49 - married - 1 1/2 story brick house.
GLUE, Charlotte - England - Methodist - 53 - married
GLUE, Phoebe - b. England - Methodist - 15
GLUE, John - England - Methodist - 13
GLUE, Thomas - England - Methodist - 11

Mary could have died or she could have been using a middle name in one or the other. (One of my 2x great-grandmothers named Sarah Sophia used the names interchangably). Also the rounding could be a factor - the 1841 census is rounded *down* to the nearest 5 years for adults so if Mary/Charlotte was 43, her age would be reported as 40 and if John was 39, his would be reported as 35. It's almost as confusing as the U.S. census records that before 1850 only recorded the head of household and a head count of the other family members by age group.

Are you in Canada? I live in Michigan. My line goes from John & Mary?/Charlotte? to Phoebe who married James PRESS. Their daughter Harriet PRESS married Edward KIRK and their daughter Eleanor KIRK married Avery J. TROTT who was from Michigan (my grandparents). Grandpa TROTT was living in Canada working as a butcher (probably for Great-grandpa KIRK who had a butcher shop in Unionville) when he met & married Grandma. I'm hoping as more data comes on line from England to be able to trace the GLEW line further back and identify the maiden name of Phoebe's mother.
