Checking with my father it appears that I misread my great uncle's draft family tree (a copy of which I have here) as John Henry Glew did indeed marry a 'Manchester girl' though not my aunt Maggie as I first thought. Many thanks for supplying the names of his two wives. From the family tree again, my great uncle has marked Harry Glew as a Sheriff of Estevan (which checking the web is in Saskatchewan), though mistakenly refers to his father, John Henry Glew as emigrating to Canada. My uncle lists Harry Glew as only having three children listed as Crawford (Cameron?), Gordon and Mabel. I see from a link from the Estevan site that Crawford wrote a book about the city in c.1980. My father remembers meeting Gordon during the second world war (c.1943/44) when he stayed with the family in Airmyn, a small village near Goole, where I grew up.
You are right in saying that my father's grandfather's name was George Richard Glew (1860-1938) though he married Mary Jane (rather than Emily) Epworth (1858-1930). They had 10-11 children though only (!) 7 survived infancy. Their names were Kate, Mary, Annie, Maggie, George, William & John (the latter two were twins). John was my grandfather and married Alice Smith of Glossop. Interestingly, George married a London lady, Olive (my father couldn't remember her surname) and their son Dennis emigrated to Canada after marrying Gwen Pope. Sadly my great uncle died last year, though his wife still lives in Canada as do their two daughters, Wendy and Jill.
John Henry and George Richard Glew's sister, Mary Catherine married Jack Spence (of Old Goole), who in turn had a son Jack, who in his turn also had a son, Jack and a daughter, Bessie; both of whom may live in Goole (unfortunately our side of the family has lost touch with this side of the family).
However, I was really pleased to hear that we are second cousins and that another branch of the Glew family lives in Canada.
I am hoping to draw up the family tree in the near future, so I would be happy to forward you a copy.
All the best
