Good luck in your search. I'd be interested to hear about any Lincolnshire Glews that you find from the earlier 1800s or 1700s.

In the meantime, you might like to check out a local family history site for the Isle of Axholme, the area of north west Lincolnshire comprising Althorpe, Epworth, etc. The URL is: http://www.linktop.demon.co.uk/axholme/. This site gives a good illustrated overview of each of the villages and the commonest names of people who lived there. It appears that is was a fairly self-contained area as the rivers that surrounded it effectiveky created an island community. However, there were ferries and the large city of Nottingham was fairly close.
