The Rev'd Charles' parents were Charles & Anne. I don't know when they married but I do know that Anne died in childbirth in 1770. So far I haven't been able to find a re-marriage for Charles Snr.
I have my doubts that he came from Devon, as on the IGI there is an entry for a Charles born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire in 1734 to Philip & Ellen. Charles Snr & Anne's oldest son was called Philip which is the first occurence of this name that I have found in my husband's family so it is possible that Charles Snr is the son of Philip & Ellen. The IGI also shows Philip Gloyne marrying Ellen Money in 1729 in Winwick which is on the Lancashire/Cheshire border. As yet I have no proof but I believe Philip Snr may have originated in Devon.
None of the children of the Rev Charles went to Devon as far as I know. Of his five sons, 3 became chemists/druggists:- Charles Glynn Gloyne had a shop in Kensington,London, William Beale Gloyne worked at Gt Ormond Street Hospital in London and Thomas Hadfield Gloyne (my husband's direct ancestor)had a shop in Dewsbury, W Yorks. The 4th son Henry, had a grocer's shop in Wakefield, W Yorks. What happened to Samuel is still a mystery.
Regards, Janice.
